SEO Case Study: Growing an Ecommerce Watch Brand from 141 to 11.3K Organic Clicks in 3 Months

Ecommerce Watch Brand SEO Case Study

How I Built Organic Visibility, Improved Rankings, Increased Sales and Generated 11.3K Google Clicks in Just 3 Months for an Ecommerce Watch Brand.

Client Overview

The client is an e-commerce business operating in the highly competitive custom watch and Seiko mod market.

The store sells a wide range of custom-built watches inspired by popular luxury watch designs, including GMT, diver, dress and sports watch styles. The product range includes more than 100 watches, supported by collection pages, product pages, educational content and buying guides.

The challenge was clear: the business had a strong product offering, but its organic search visibility was still very limited.

I started working with the client approximately three months ago with the goal of building a stronger organic search presence, improving rankings for commercially relevant queries and turning Google search visibility into qualified ecommerce traffic.

The strategy focused on strengthening the site’s overall SEO foundation rather than relying on a single keyword or a short-term ranking tactic.

The Challenge

When I started working with the client, the website had very limited organic search visibility.

The biggest opportunity was not simply to rank one or two pages. The website needed to establish visibility across the entire search journey.

Potential customers could search for:

This created an opportunity to build an SEO structure that connected informational search intent with commercial product intent.

The objective was therefore to grow visibility across multiple stages of the customer journey while improving the ability of product and collection pages to capture commercially valuable searches.

The SEO Strategy

Last 3 Months’ GSC Data

1. Strengthening Commercial Search Visibility

One of the main priorities was improving the website’s ability to compete for commercially relevant searches.

For an ecommerce website, ranking informational content alone is not enough. The SEO strategy needs to help users move from discovery to product consideration and, ultimately, purchase.

The optimization therefore focused on strengthening important commercial pages, including product and collection-level content.

The website currently has a large product inventory, which creates significant opportunities to capture long-tail searches around individual watch styles, designs and specifications.

This allowed the SEO strategy to target a much wider search footprint instead of depending on a small number of generic keywords.

2. Product-Level SEO Optimization

Product pages are particularly important for an e-commerce business because they sit closest to the buying decision.

I worked on improving the way product pages communicate their relevance to search engines and users.

The optimization focused on areas such as:

The goal was to make each important product page capable of targeting its own relevant search demand rather than allowing multiple products to compete for the same generic terms.

The current website provides detailed information such as movement type, case material, crystal type, dimensions and other product specifications, giving search engines substantially more context about the products.

3. Building Topical Authority Through Content

Another important part of the strategy was using informational content to expand the site’s organic search footprint.

Instead of publishing generic blog posts, the content strategy focused on questions and topics potential customers are already likely to search before purchasing a custom watch.

This approach creates a content ecosystem around the core commercial topic.

The site now contains content addressing product education, buying decisions, comparisons, authenticity, quality and current market trends.

The purpose was not simply to generate blog traffic.

The larger objective was to establish the website as a useful source of information around the category while creating additional entry points into the ecommerce site.

4. Semantic SEO and Search Intent

The SEO strategy also moved beyond exact-match keyword targeting.

Search engines increasingly understand relationships between entities, products, attributes and search intent.

For this website, that meant building relevance around connected concepts such as:

Seiko mods → automatic movements → NH35/NH34 → custom watches → aftermarket parts → sapphire crystal → stainless steel cases → GMT watches → diver watches → luxury-style watches → customization

This creates stronger topical relationships across the website.

The product pages already provide useful supporting information around movements, materials, customization and construction, which helps reinforce the topical context of the website.

5. Creating Content for Different Stages of the Buying Journey

A major SEO opportunity for ecommerce websites is that not every potential customer is ready to buy immediately.

Someone searching:

“What is a Seiko mod?”

is at a different stage from someone searching:

“best Seiko mod watches”

And that person is at a different stage from someone searching for a specific product.

The content strategy therefore addressed multiple levels of search intent.

1. Informational Intent – Content explains what Seiko mods are, how they work and what buyers should know before purchasing.

2. Commercial Investigation – Content helps users compare options, understand quality and identify the best types of watches for their needs.

3. Transactional Intent – Product and collection pages target users who are already looking for a specific watch or category.

This creates a natural SEO funnel:

Search → Education → Consideration → Product Discovery → Purchase

The Results

The results after approximately three months were significant.

According to Google Search Console, the website generated:

11.3K Organic Clicks

During the latest three-month period, the website generated 11.3K Google organic clicks.

The previous comparable three-month period generated only 141 clicks.

That represents an increase of approximately 7,914%.

More importantly, this demonstrates that the website moved from extremely limited organic traffic into a meaningful and consistent level of search-driven visits.

131K Organic Impressions

The website generated 131K organic impressions during the latest three-month period.

The previous three-month period generated only 762 impressions.

That represents an increase of approximately 17,092%.

This is arguably one of the most important indicators of progress.

The website is no longer appearing for only a handful of searches. Google is now exposing pages from the website across a much broader range of search queries.

Average Position Improved to 6.8

Average search position improved from 8.2 to 6.8.

That is an improvement of 1.4 positions, or approximately 17%.

An average position of 6.8 means the site’s overall organic visibility is now concentrated much more strongly around the first page of Google.

This is particularly important because improving rankings from page two toward the first page can create a substantial increase in organic traffic.

Latest 28-Day Performance

The growth has also accelerated recently.

In the latest 28-day period shown in Google Search Console, the website generated:

SEO MetricLatest 28 DaysPrevious 28 DaysChange
Organic Clicks7.26K2.38K+205%
Impressions82K34.1K+140%
CTR8.9%7.0%+27%
Average Position6.37.3Improved by 1.0 position

The latest 28-day data is particularly encouraging because the improvement is not limited to the three-month comparison.

The website is continuing to gain momentum.

Organic clicks more than tripled compared with the previous 28-day period, while impressions increased by more than 140%.

At the same time, average position improved from 7.3 to 6.3.

This combination of increasing impressions and improving rankings indicates that the website is gaining both visibility and search performance.

The Growth Curve Is the Most Important Result

The three-month Google Search Console graph shows a clear change in the website’s organic growth trajectory.

For much of the early period, daily clicks and impressions remained relatively low.

The growth then accelerated sharply toward the end of the period.

Daily organic clicks moved into the hundreds, with several days approaching or exceeding 500 clicks.

Impressions also increased significantly, reaching several thousand impressions per day.

This suggests that the SEO work is not simply producing isolated ranking improvements.

The website is beginning to benefit from a broader organic search footprint.

What Changed in Just 3 Months?

The biggest transformation can be summarized simply:

Before:
Very limited organic visibility and only 141 clicks during the previous three-month comparison period.

After:
11.3K organic clicks, 131K impressions and an average position of 6.8 within the latest three-month period.

The latest 28 days show even stronger momentum, with 7.26K clicks and 82K impressions.

This means the website generated more than half of its entire three-month click total within the latest 28-day period.

That acceleration is a strong signal that the SEO campaign is gaining momentum rather than simply producing a one-time spike.

The Bigger Opportunity

Last 28 Days’ GSC Data

The first three months were primarily about establishing organic momentum.

The next stage is about turning that momentum into a larger and more commercially valuable search presence.

With the website already showing strong growth in impressions and first-page visibility, there is significant room to expand into additional long-tail product searches, category searches, comparison queries and informational topics.

The focus going forward should be to:

The objective is no longer simply to get the website onto Google’s first page.

It is to make the website increasingly difficult to overlook when potential customers search for custom watch and Seiko mod products.

Key Takeaways

In just three months, the SEO campaign transformed the website’s organic search performance.

Organic clicks increased from 141 to 11.3K, impressions increased from 762 to 131K, and average position improved from 8.2 to 6.8.

The latest 28-day data shows that the growth is accelerating, with 7.26K clicks and 82K impressions generated in a single 28-day period.

The most encouraging part is that this growth has come from building a broader organic search presence across products, commercial searches and informational content.

For an ecommerce business operating in a competitive category, the goal is not simply to rank for one keyword.

The goal is to build an SEO system that continuously creates new opportunities to appear in search, attract qualified visitors and turn organic visibility into commercial growth.

And after just three months, that system is already showing strong momentum.
